Holding It All Together? This Letter Is for You
May 19, 2026
This episode is for the person who has been holding everything together for a very long time.
The one constantly anticipating problems before they happen.
Monitoring moods.
Managing crises.
Trying to keep the peace.
The one who became strong because they felt they had to.
In this week’s episode of Master Stress with Dr S, I continue our conversation around addiction and rescuer dynamics — but this time, through stories.
Stories of partners, parents, and loved ones whose lives slowly became organised around someone else’s unpredictability.
Not because they were weak.
But because they cared deeply.
And somewhere along the way, compassion quietly turned into responsibility.
This episode includes a letter I wrote called A Letter to the Rescuer.
A reminder that:
You can understand someone’s pain without carrying responsibility for their recovery.
You can love someone deeply without abandoning yourself.
And you are allowed to reclaim your own life, even when outcomes feel uncertain.
If you’ve been exhausted for longer than you can explain…
If your nervous system feels permanently “on”…
If you’ve forgotten what it feels like to focus on yourself without guilt…
This conversation is for you.

You were never meant to carry another person’s life at the cost of your own.
With care,
